Sonya Wood

Sonya is an artist from the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas in Northern California.  Her favorite medium is encaustic painting, but also creates stunning pieces in alcohol ink, watercolors and photography.  The inspiration for Sonya's art comes from nature, which she photographs for reference material. However, sometimes the photos become the art themselves.  Many of her creations will have the original photograph to compare and may be displayed in the photography gallery.

Sonya loves the diametric quality of encaustic painting: Placing the paint where she wants, and watching it move and interact with its own volition when it is heated.  "I love the translucency of encaustic painting, which allows each layer to tell its own story."
